FACT: Every 7 minutes someone is bullied on the
playground. The X-Out Bullying program is a partnership with the Antigonish Town and County RCMP and the St. Francis Xavier Department of Athletics and Recreational Services and its varsity athletes, in cooperation with the Strait Regional School Board and Ecole Acadienne de Pomquet, making a commitment to speak to all Grade 4 classes who request the presentation about this important issue bullying in Antigonish Town and County. Requests would come from the local schools to the RCMP Community Liaison Officer Constable Melanie Gefferion from the Antigonish Detachment for the anti-bullying campaign presentation. Presentations will take place in January, February and March, but can be booked at any time of the year. |
The program was designed and started in 2004 by then StFX
Athletics Marketing & Community Development Coordinator Jerrett
DeFazio, in conjunction with the RCMP. DeFazio is a former
Police Officer with the Ottawa Police Service and Behavioural
Consultant with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern
Ontario, and after a five year stay with StFX Athleitcs, is now
employed as the Director of the Ottawa Boys and Girls
Club.
The X-Out Bullying program will include speeches and a skit
from our athletes, RCMP and Athletics staff. Athletes will appear
in uniform and be well-prepared by our staff and the RCMP. The
athletes break the class into groups and speak about pro-active
solutions to bullying, with an emphasis on a team approach
utilizing the bystander group. The students and athletes brainstorm
out a contract with three main areas to focus on in their
classroom, school and community. A Kind Act box is left behind to
record all good deeds that take place in the classroom after we
leave. The program returns in late spring to reward the kids with a
Subway party, and a follow-up progress report. Autograph and photo
sessions will be available after the workshop. The program itself
is targeted for grade 4 classes and as well community presentations
at StFX University.
We are looking for companies or individuals who want to be a part of our team to help make a difference in our community and help keep this program operational with their sponsorship. All sponsor names, or logos, will be displayed on this web page at www.goxgo.ca. Sponsors will be identified in CJFX radio ads, the local Casket newspaper and on X-Out Bullying print materials such as posters, reading materials and brochures.
Let's put an X through bullying! Together we can make a
difference!
