Lou Bilek enters the Hall of Fame as a builder for his
vast accomplishments with the X-Men soccer team. In fact, the
name Lou Bilek is synonymous with men’s soccer at StFX where
Lou was the head coach for 39 seasons, from 1970 through until
2008. Throughout his tenure Lou coached numerous first and second
team AUS and CIS All-Canadian athletes, and was twice named the CIS
Coach of the Year (1988 and 1993). Lou was also recognized for his
coaching prowess as the AUS Coach of the Year on four occasions. In
the competitive Atlantic conference, Lou led his X-Men to two
consecutive AUS championship titles in 1993 and 1994. The CIS
rookie of the year award was named the Lou Bilek rookie of the year
award in his honor. In addition to his head soccer coaching duties,
Lou was at the helm of the StFX men’s volleyball team for
seven years from 1973 to 1980, leading his team to two AUS titles
in 1976 and 1977. A professor of Human Kinetics at StFX during his
four decades with varsity athletics, Lou mentored numerous
student-athletes and coached in countless games.
