StFX Cross Country and Track & Field National Champions

ERIC GILLIS - 2003 National Cross Country Champion

Eric Gillis’s name is synonymous with running excellence at StFX. Over his five seasons with the X-Men, Eric earned AUS cross country all-star status in each year, culminating with the ultimate title of CIS individual national champion in 2003. Eric bested the national field in the 10km race at Moncton that fall, winning the gold medal in a time of 31:53.29. A native of Antigonish, N.S., he earned the top distinction as the AUS and CIS runner of the year in 2003.

Eric was also recognized as CIS All-Canadian four times. He competed twice at the World University Cross Country Games for Canada in 2002 and 2004. The five-time X-Men Runner of the Year, Eric was recognized as the 2003 and 2004 StFX male athlete of the year. On the indoor track, Eric was a three-time CIS medalist and 2004 All-Canadian.

ANGUS RAWLING – 2018 National 3000m Track & Field Champion

In his third season with the X-Men, distance runner Angus Rawling made history at the U SPORTS national track and field championship in Windsor, Ont. When he became the first StFX track & field athlete – male or female – to win a national gold medal. A native of Calgary, Alta., Rawling won the 3000m race, claiming the gold medal and title of U SPORTS champion, as he finished with a time of 8:18.11 amidst the field of 14 runners.

A two-time AUS individual cross country champion and male runner of the year (2018, 2017), Angus was a U SPORTS All-Canadian status in both Track & Field and Cross Country in 2017-18 and was named the 2018 StFX male athlete of the year.
