STFX runners compete in Quebec at interlock meet
The StFX X-Men and X-Women cross country teams competed at the RSEQ Invitational interlock meet held Saturday on the Plains of Abraham. The X-Women came up with a second place team performance and the X-Men placed fourth. Both X squads are ranked No. 8 in their respective U SPORTS top ten rankings.
QUEBEC CITY – The StFX X-Men and X-Women cross country teams competed at the RSEQ Invitational interlock meet held Saturday on the Plains of Abraham. The X-Women came up with a second place team performance and the X-Men placed fourth. Both X squads are ranked No. 8 in their respective U SPORTS top ten rankings.
In the women's 8km race featuring 85 competitors, the X-Women earned 64 points in their second place showing, behind the first place Laval Rouge et Or who had 16. UNB was third with 78.
Laval had a podium sweep with the top three finishers, along with five runners in the top six. The top X-Women finisher was Eileen Benoit who came in seventh place, clocking in with a time of 30:34.
Allie Sandluck (30:46) and Mairin Canning (30:47) were 10th and 11th, respectively.
Taylor Rasmussen (31:07) came 16th, Julia Cameron (31:35) was 20th, and Breanna Sandluck (31:46) was 21st. Rounding out the X-Women competitors were Caden Lee (31:51, 27th), Tanna Burke (32:18, 32nd), Bridget Keedwell (32:33, 36th), Natasha Chojnacki (32:41, 39th), and Brynn Hebert (33:29, 53rd).
On the men's side, the X-Men garnered 161 points in their fourth place finish. Laval came first with 37 points, followed by Dalhousie (65) and UNB (96).
Jacob Benoit placed fifth overall for the X-Men with a time of 25:06, staying with the lead pack throughout the 8km race that featured 112 runners.
Luc Gallant came 20th with a time of 25:48, while his X teammate Liam McCullagh was 37th at 26:25.
Also competing for the X-Men were Jack Wierzbicki (26:58, 49th), Liam Patterson (27:00, 50th), Luke MacDonald (27:06, 55th), Jack O'Donnell (27:31, 60th), Owen Flemming (27:43, 67th), Ben Good (28:16, 78th), and Noah Proulx (28:26, 84th).
Next up on the schedule for the X runners is the Subway AUS Championship, taking place in Charlottetown on October 29th.
