X-Men and X-Women runners compete in Halifax

HALIFAX, NS – The Acadia Axewomen and Dalhousie Tigers claimed team wins at the DAL/SMU Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Point Pleasant Park.

The Axewomen got their first win of the season, while the Tigers claimed their second-straight team win.

In the women's 6k race, newcomer Savanna Jordan (Dalhousie) took first place in the field of 61 runners with a time of 22:39. She was followed Carol-Ann MacDonald (Moncton) who finished in 23:25 and teammate Shaylynn Tell at 23:51.

Rounding out the top 10 AUS runners were Madalyn Higgins (Acadia), Katie Robinson (Acadia), Kamylle Frenette (Moncton), Chrissy Smith (Acadia), Zoe Johnston (StFX), Rachel MacDougall (StFX) and Paige Chisholm (StFX).

Acadia won the team event with 45 points, followed closely by Dalhousie with 46 points. StFX placed third with 57 and l'Université de Moncton was fourth with 75 points.

On the men's side, Angus Rawling (StFX) captured first place in the 8k race, with a time of 25:35. Former X-Men and now graduate students Lee Wesselius (UPEI) and Calvin DeWolfe (Dalhousie) were second and third with times of 25:55 and 26:05, respectively.

Rounding out the AUS top ten were Graeme Wach (Dalhousie), Andrew Peverill (Saint Mary's), Will Russell (Dalhousie), Paul MacLellan (StFX), Isaac Cull (Moncton), Addison Derhak (StFX) and Hudson Grimshaw-Surette (Dalhousie).

Dalhousie claimed the team event, with 34 points and were followed by StFX (46 points), UPEI (76 points), Saint Mary's (150 points) and l'université de Moncton (130 points).

The next meet is scheduled for Saturday, October 7 at l'Université de Laval as the AUS and RSEQ conferences meet in interlock in competition.
