X-Men claim top spot at DAL/SMU Invitational, X-Women second

(HALIFAX, N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers and StFX X-Men kept their impressive 2016-17 AUS cross country campaigns rolling on Saturday afternoon at Point Pleasant Park.

The Dalhousie women and StFX men both picked up their third straight team wins of the season, doing so in splendid fashion.

In the women's 6k race that featured over 10 different universities or clubs, Colleen Wilson (Dalhousie) took first place in the field of 63 runners with a time of 22:11. She was followed by former AUS athlete Ashley Ryer (unattached) with a time of 22:52, and Jenna MacDonald (Dalhousie) who finished in 23:06.

Rounding out the top 10 were Sarah Myatt (Dalhousie), Mary MacDonald (StFX), Amanda Wilkins (Running Room), Heidi MacDonald (StFX), Zoe Johnston (StFX), Shaylynn Tell (Dalhousie) and Alicia Henry (Acadia).

The Tigers won the team event with 22 points – placing four runners in the top 10. They were followed by StFX (37 points), Acadia (76 points), Memorial (115 points) St. Marys (144) and Moncton (161).

On the men's side, Cal Dewolfe (StFX) captured first place in the 8k race, followed immediately by teammate Alex Cyr. Both finished with a time of 26:52 in a field of 66 runners. Rounding out the top three was Matthew Power (Memorial) with a time of 27:05.

The top 10 featured Jérémie Pellerin (Moncton), Joshua Shanks (UPEI), Jean-Marc Doiron (Club Endurance), Jake Wing (Dalhousie), Andrew Peverill (Chebucto Athletics), Nick Favero (StFX) and Bryan Thomas (Moncton).

StFX claimed the team event, with 35 points and were followed by Dalhousie (62 points), Memorial (81 points), Moncton (98 points), New Brunswick (111 points), St. Marys (150 points) and UPEI (183 points).

The next meet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 in Fredericton, NB as the AUS and RSEQ conferences will interlock in competition. The women will start at 12 p.m., while the men will start at 12:45.
