Antigonish, NS - In dominant fashion, the CIS #10 ranked StFX X-Men defended their home turf with a first-place finish in the StFX Invitational cross country meet Saturday afternoon on the StFX campus course.

On the strength of having the first nine university finishers cross the line, the X-Men accumulated 15 points, outdistancing the UNB Varsity Reds (66) and Saint Mary's Huskies (82), who placed second and third, respectively.

In the 8k race, Cal DeWolfe (Bridgewater, NS) finished first in 27:08, followed by StFX teammates Nick Favero (Rockland, ON, 27:09) and Riley Johnston (Pembroke, ON, 27:10), who rounded out the top three.

The other X-Men racers included Lee Wessilius (River Glade, NB, 4th, 27:10), Angus Rawling (Calgary, AB, 5th, 27:11), Alex Cyr (Abram-Village, PE, sixth, 27:11), Scott Donald (Ottawa, ON, seventh, 27:11), Paul MacLellan (Antigonish, NS, eighth, 27:28), Edward MacDonald (Antigonish, NS, ninth, 27:54), Matt Eliot (Kingston, ON, 17th, 28:37), Ryan O'Regan (Cornwall, PE, 18th, 28:45), Warren Ferguson (Ottawa, ON, 25th, 29:33) and Ryan Fuller (Avonport, NS, 31st, 30:58).

"It was a good run. We just tried to keep together, as a pack; stay as controlled as we could, because we knew we had a big meet next weekend, so we didn't want to push anything too hard," DeWolfe said.

"But, we wanted to get the win, at the same time, on our home course."

StFX has captured first place in the two meets they have raced in this season.

The X-Men return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Quebec City for the Plains of Abraham RSEQ interlock meet, which will be hosted by Laval University.
