Antigonish, NS - Led by Jenna MacDonald (23:12) and Kate Scallion (23:28), who finished first and second, respectively, the Dalhousie Tigers raced to top spot in the StFX Invitational cross country meet Saturday afternoon on the StFX campus course.

With 45 points, the host X-Women finished second to the Tigers (24), with the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues racing to third place (105).

Freshman Hana Marmura (Antigonish, NS) was the first StFX runner to cross the finish line. She placed third in 23:30, followed nearly simultaneously by her teammate Leah Gouthro (23:30) of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

"It was a really good race – me and Leah (Gouthro) just tried to work together; we planned to run it together. We really help push each other, whenever the other one feels like they can go a bit faster, we bring the other one with us, so that's just what we did the whole race," Marmura said.

The other X-Women runners who raced were Kendra MacNeil (Antigonish, NS, 11th, 24:04), Catherine Thompson (Blenheim, ON, 13th, 24:13), Victoria Sandre (Greely, ON, 14th, 24:17), Jasmine DeZeeuw (Mount Pearl, NF, 15th, 24:24), Zoe Johnston (Pembroke, ON, 20th, 24:44), Rachel MacDougall (Antigonish, NS, 23rd, 25:05), Teagan Moxam (Sudbury, ON, 25, 25:09), Olivia MacDonald (Antigonish, NS, 26th, 25:19), Ellen Burnett (Charlottetown, PE, 29th, 25:42), Maura Gillis (Antigonish, NS, 31st, 26:02), Kirsten Tate (Heatherton, NS, 35th, 26:25), Emily MacKay (40th, 26:53) and Mia Furlong (Amherst, NS, 45th, 27:30).

"Our team is doing really well. We all work together really well and we are steadily improving with every race, so I think we will have a really good season," Marmura said of the X-Women.

StFX has captured second place in the two meets they have raced in this season.

The X-Women return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Quebec City for the Plains of Abraham RSEQ interlock meet, which will be hosted by Laval University.
