Connor McGuire of the StFX X-Men cross country team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 30th, 2011. Connor, a third-year Science student from Summerside, P.E.I., won the men’s individual title at the 2011 Subway AUS cross country championship meet hosted by UNB this past Saturday in Fredericton, N.B. McGuire covered the 10km course in a time of 32:23, helping the X-Men to the men’s championship banner. The win was the fourth of the season for Connor who was named the AUS cross country male athlete of the year. McGuire also captured three invitational titles in 2011, including the Saint Mary's Invitational, Acadia Invitational and Dalhousie Invitational. The 2011 CIS cross country championship will be hosted by Laval on Saturday, November 12th.

Holly Van Gestel of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s cross country team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 30th, 2011. Van Gestel, a fourth-year student from Antigonish, NS., captured the women’s individual title at this past weekend’s Subway AUS cross country championship hosted by UNB. Holly crossed the finish line in the 5km championship event in a course record time of 17:17 and helped the Tigers win their second consecutive AUS banner and 19th overall. Van Gestel, who will travel to Laval on November 12th to participate in the 2011 CIS championship, was also named the AUS female cross country athlete of the year.

Throughout the 2011-12 season, each Subway Atlantic University Sport Athlete of the Week will receive a $50.00 Subway Card and a framed certificate courtesy of Subway Restaurants and Atlantic University Sport.
