Connor McGuire of the StFX X-Men cross country team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 16th, 2011. Connor, a third-year Science student from Summerside, P.E.I., finished first overall at the Dalhousie Invitational meet held this past weekend in Halifax. McGuire finished the 7.5 km race in a time of 26:22, six seconds ahead of teammate Riley Johnston, and helped the X-Men capture the team title by a single point over the host Tigers. Connor has now captured three invitational titles this season, including the Saint Mary’s Invitational and the Acadia Invitational.

Karolyne Blain of the Cape Breton Capers women’s soccer team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 16th, 2011. Blain, a first-year Science student from Sudbury, Ont., scored four goals in two road wins this past weekend as the Capers improved to 6-3-0 on the season to sit in fourth place in the AUS standings. In Saturday’s 3-0 win over Moncton, Karolyne scored the first two goals of the game and was named the Subway player of the game for her play. In Sunday’s road victory over the UNB Varsity Reds, she added two more markers in the ninth minute and the 58th minute in a convincing 7-0 victory. Blain, who now has three two-goal games this season, is currently second in the AUS women’s soccer scoring race with nine goals in nine games.

Throughout the 2011-12 season, each Subway Atlantic University Sport Athlete of the Week will receive a $50.00 Subway Card and a framed certificate courtesy of Subway Restaurants and Atlantic University Sport.
