WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen and the StFX X-Women both finish the season undefeated in the final regular season game as they tied each other 0-0 on Friday night.

Both teams played an aggressive first half and forced the referees to make some tough calls. Despite all the offensive chances, the score read 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.

The Axewomen outshot the X-Women 4-1 in the first half.

In the 51st minute, Madicynn Harnish (Lower Sackville, N.S.) had a great shot towards the net, but it curved a bit too much and went wide.

Acadia continued to pressure StFX's goalie throughout the second half, still looking for their first goal.

Acadia's Subway Player of the Game, Destiny Lutz, noted that the team's accomplishment of an undefeated season was an important goal for many.

"We're all so pumped. We tried our best to reach this goal and we had a great season. We knew we could do it, and we always put our best foot forward. I think we managed today's game well and we're ready for the playoffs."

When asked if a rivalry was brewing between the two teams, Lutz laughed and said agreed there was definitely a lot of tension during the match.

StFX's veteran forward Catherine Kennedy (Antigonish, N.S.) played a solid 90 minutes and helped her team maintain their own undefeated streak. Kennedy was named player of the game for her squad.

The Axewomen finish with a regular season record of 9-0-3, clinching first place in the AUS standings with 30 points.

StFX went 7-0-5 on the season and currently sit in second place with 26 points, one up on Cape Breton who have a game in hand. They will play Moncton on Saturday. A win or tie would give them the second place edge and a playoff first round bye.

The Subway AUS Championship is scheduled for October 31 – November 3 in Sydney, NS.
