X-Women top Sea-Hawks 3-0

(St. John's, NL) – The StFX X-Women defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks were 3-0 Saturday afternoon at King George V pitch.

After dropping the first match of the weekend last night, the X-Women responded with a strong effort from the opening whistle.

Memorial led the first attack of the game, but were unable to convert on back-to-back corner kick attempts. The X-Women settled in and began to put pressure on the Sea-Hawks back line. 

The visiting X-Women were rewarded in the 12th minute of action with a goal off the foot of Olivia Czipf (Thunder Bay, ON) after receiving a great pass from Chloe Brennan (Brookside, NS). The X-Women struck again in the 32nd minute. Brennan again setup the goal, this time the finisher was Mercy Myles (Accra, Ghana), who beat Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL) on the short side.

The X-Women went into the halftime break with the 2-0 advantage.

The Sea-Hawks looked to turn the tables in the second half, with multiple scoring opportunities in the first 25 minutes of the half. X goalkeeper Rachel Hawkins (Calgary, AB) held her ground and recorded the clean sheet for the visitors.

StFX scored one more time to as Kelsey Ellis connected in the 77th minute to bring the final score to 3-0.

Subway Player of the Game was awarded to StFX defender Catherine Kennedy.

Both teams will head to Sydney, NS for the 2018 Subway AUS Soccer Championships, hosted by Cape Breton November 1-4.

The sixth place Sea-Hawks (4-4-4) will matchup with the third place Dalhousie Tigers (7-4-1), while the fourth place X-Women (5-3-4) will face the fifth place Saint Mary's Huskies (6-5-1) I the quarter-finals.
