(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the visiting StFX X-Women by a 1-0 margin on Saturday night at King George V Field and clinched a berth into the Subway AUS soccer championship next weekend.

Memorial came into this weekend knowing they needed to earn at least one point to get back to the championship for the sixth consecutive season.

The X-Women started the game on the offensive attacked, registering three quality scoring chances in the first 20 minutes of game action. Sea-Hawks keeper Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL) was up to the challenge, turning aside all three chances.

Memorial found their legs midway through the first half, registering multiple chances of their own.

The Hawks would strike first with a great shot from distance by fifth year midfielder Teri Murphy (Mount Pearl, NL) notching her second goal of the season.  Memorial went into the half with the 1-0 advantage.

StFX came out strong to start the second half, looking for an early equalizer, but once again Walsh stood strong in goal for the Sea-Hawks.

Kelsey Ellis (Ottawa, ON) put forth an impressive performance for the visitors. Ellis had a game-high five shots, with four of those shots being on goal.

Memorial was able to close out the game, despite some late pressure from the X-Women. Teri Murphy was named the Subway Player of the Game, notching the game winner for the Hawks.

The Sea-Hawks and X-Women return to the pitch tomorrow at 1:00pm NST. While both teams have clinched playoff berths, seeding is still to be determined as the X-Women and Sea-Hawks are tied in points with 16 each on the season. Both teams sit just three points behind second place Saint Mary's and Dalhousie, who are tied with 19 points apiece.

Saturday's game will be webcast live on www.AUStv.ca.
