Soccer X-Women score big road win over Panthers

Charlottetown, PE - The StFX X-Women (2-0-1) remain unbeaten in the early AUS soccer season after a 5-1 road victory over the UPEI Panthers (0-3-1) Friday evening.

Sophomore midfielder Chloe Brennan (Brookside, NS) opened the scoring for the X-Women in the second minute, on an assist from junior midfielder Brittany Parks (Kennetcook, NS).

The Panthers evened the match late in the fifth minute, with Jerika Gimpel (Alliston, ON) tallying on an assist from Jen White (Charlottetown, PEI).

Freshman forward Kelsey Ellis (Ottawa, ON) restored the StFX one-goal advantage late in the 19th minute.

In the 25th minute, sophomore midfielder Olivia Czipf (Thunder Bay, ON) doubled the X-Women lead, on an assist from freshman midfielder Erica van Wyk (Kanata, ON).

Before the end of the first half, in the 27th minute, sophomore midfielder Margaux Fraser (Mississauga, ON) converted a set-up from Chloe Brennan to make it 4-1 for the X-Women.

StFX freshman midfielder Rachel Hawkins (Calgary, AB) potted the lone goal of the second half, finishing off the 5-1 win, in the 89th minute.

Sophomore keeper Erin Visser (Whitby, ON) made three saves for the X-Women win, while Ashley McKenna (Stratford, PEI) turned aside six shots for UPEI in the loss.

The Panthers are back on the field Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host the Cape Breton University Capers at 3 p.m. in Charlottetown.

The X-Women return to the pitch when they host the Capers Friday, Sept. 25 at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.

Opening kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
