Soccer X-Women drop close 1-0 game to Huskies

Halifax, NS – The X-Women soccer team dropped a close 1-0 game to the Saint Mary's Huskies Sunday afternoon at Huskies Stadium.

Celina Cavadini's late goal in the 77th minute was the only one of the game as the Huskies earned their first win of the season.

The X-Women drop to 3-3-5.

Shots in the game favored the Huskies at 12-10. Jackie Blank earned the win in nets for SMU with 6 saves. Erin Visser, with 4 saves on the afternoon was tagged with the loss for StFX.

With 14 points on the season, the X-Women currently sit in 7th place in the AUS conference, three back of both Cape Breton (5-4-2) and UPEI (5-4-2). They will need to catch one of those teams in order to clinch the sixth and final playoff spot.

UNB, Acadia, Memorial and Dalhousie have already punched their tickets to the Subway AUS Championship to be hosted by Dalhousie Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

The X-Women have two games remaining on the AUS schedule. They travel to Cape Breton Wednesday, Oct. 22 for a 5:00 pm game against the Capers, then will play Dalhousie in Halifax on October 25th.

The Capers visit UPEI on October 26th and UPEI will also host Memorial on October 25th
