Capers remain undefeated with win over X-Women

The X-Women soccer team played a close game with the CIS ranked No. 6 Cape Breton Capers but fell 2-1 Friday night in AUS soccer action at StFX Oland Stadium.

With the win the Capers improve to 8-0-4 atop the AUS conference, keeping their unbeaten streak alive. The X-Women drop to 3-6-3.

AUS leading goal scorer Karolyne Blain added to her season point tally, netting both goals for the Capers and earning Subway player of the game honors.

After a scoreless first half, highlighted by several key saves from veteran X-Women keeper Maris Miller, Blain opened the scoring in the game in 55th minute.

X-Women forward Melanie Sunada thought she scored the equalizer minutes later as the ball danced on the Capers goal line but stayed out.

Freshman forward Kevyn Timmons did find the back of the Capers net in the 70th minute, volleying in a ball off a corner kick. Olivia Wilkie assisted on the play.

Blain's game winning goal came late in the 87th minute, trickling across the goal line to count for the Capers win.

CBU outshot the X-Women 21-5 as goalkeeper Lysianne Trottier picked up the win in the Capers net.

Timmons was the player of the game for the X-Women.

StFX will play their final AUS regular season home game on Sunday as they host the Memorial Sea-Hawks (5-3-3) at 11:00 am.
