X-Women blanked 3-0 by Tigers in AUS soccer action

The StFX X-Women dropped a 3-0 decision to the Dalhousie Tigers Sunday afternoon in AUS soccer action at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.

Shannon Junor recorded the shutout for the visitors, who upped their record 6-2-1.

With the loss, the X-Women fell to 3-4-3.

"We played much better, although the outcome wouldn't indicate it," X-Women third-year midfielder and team captain Bobbie Martin said.

"We had great movement, but trouble with our finish. "I am really proud of everyone," she added.

When she said the X-Women played much better, Martin was referring to a road loss earlier this season to the defending AUS champion Tigers.

Subway player of the match Elise Bilodeau opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, when she beat Nicole MacDonald with a nifty low shot just inside the left goal post.

As the X-Women worked for the equalizer in the second half, the Tigers sealed the deal with goals from Scarlet Smith (77th minute) and Bianca Jakisa (83rd).

Fourth-year wing Melanie Sunada was the player of the match for the X-Women.

"We are a new, young team. We are getting better and better as the season goes on," Martin said of the X-Women, when asked about her team.

She noted the X-Women will continue to work hard as they make a push in the home stretch of the season.

The X-Women will return to action Sunday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axewomen.
