X-Women blank Huskies in AUS soccer action

The StFX X-Women (3-3-3) defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-9-0) by a 4-0 margin in AUS soccer action Friday evening in Halifax.

The blue and white scored two goals in each half to secure the victory.

Melanie Sunada, a fourth-year wing from Calgary, opened the scoring in the 11th minute, with defender Jessica Walsh-Moreau of Ottawa extending the advantage to 2-0 eight minutes later.

There was no more scoring until the 76th minute, when Danielle Aucoin, a second-year wing from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, gave the visitors a 3-0 lead on a penalty kick.

In the 89th minute, Calgary native Kevyn Timmons, a first year forward, wrapped up the scoring for the blue and white. 

Veteran keeper Maris Miller earned the shutout victory in nets for StFX. Laura Darnbrough took the loss for the Huskies who remain winless on the AUS season.

The X-Women return to action Sunday when they host the defending conference champion Dalhousie Tigers (5-2-1) at Oland Stadium. Match time is 1 p.m.
