X-Women shutout by Capers

The X-Women soccer team dropped to 2-3-3 on the AUS season with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Cape Breton Capers Friday afternoon in Sydney, NS.

With the win the Capers improve to 3-0-3 and sit in a three-way tie for second place in the AUS conference. The X-Women are alone in sixth place. The game at Cape Breton is their only one of the weekend while the Capers will travel to Sackville, NB Sunday to play Mount Allison.

The Capers got on the board early as Chelsea Currie scored six minutes into the game. The 1-0 advantage held through to half-time.

Subway player of the game Allison Bell-Davis quickly increased the Capers lead with a goal in the 64th minute, then Karolyne Blain notched a pair of goals, scoring late in the game in the 86th and 89th minutes.

Tiffany O'Donnell earned the shutout victory in the Capers net. Maris Miller was tagged with the loss for StFX.

X-Women associate coach Mira Novak commented, "We comfortably controlled the midfield but were left exposed a few times to the pace of their attacking players which cost us the first goal."

"We tried really hard to come back in the second half but couldn't break their defensive line effectively."

Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a game in Halifax on Friday, October 4th against the Saint Mary's  Huskies. StFX will then host the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday, October 6th at 1:00 pm in StFX Homecoming action.
