X-Women fall to Tigers in mid-week game

The StFX X-Women dropped to 1-2-2 on the season after being shutout 3-0 Wednesday evening by the defending AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax.

X-Women head coach Graham Kennedy commented, "This was our toughest game of the AUS season to date."

"DAL pressed high and fast and they forced us into mistakes in our own half. We were down 1-0 at half but the score flattered us and Nicole MacDonald kept us in the match. We were much better in the second half and had a couple of chances to score. We still have not learned to compete for 90 minutes, but we're getting a little better every day."

With the win the Tigers improved to 3-1-1, moving into first place in the AUS standings, riding a three-game winning streak. They came out strong with a number of shots on StFX keeper MacDonald, who made three saves in the loss.

Kristy McGregor-Bales put the Tigers up 1-0 after burying a header in the 23rd minute and the 1-0 lead held through until halftime.

The X-Women had their best scoring opportunity on a breakaway attempt, but Tigers keeper Shannon Junor made a key save.

Subway Player of the Game Elise Bilodeau added to the Tigers lead with a goal in the 76th minute then Joanna Blodgett rounded out the scoring in the 85th minute with Dalhousie's third marker of the evening.

The X-Women will look to rebound when they host the Mount Allison Mounties (0-4-0) on Saturday, Sept. 21st at 1:00pm in Antigonish.

Dalhousie travels to Wolfville on Saturday for a 1:00 game against Acadia (2-1-1).
