The reigning champion StFX X-Women look to make history when the U SPORTS Women’s Rugby Championship Presented by the University of Ottawa opens in the nation’s capital later this week.
The StFX X-Women earned five spots on the AUS all-star team including Sam Lake, Sarah McCarron, Alex Hamilton, Maddison Ross and Sarah Hoerig. Mike Cavanagh was honoured as the AUS Coach of the Year.
The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Women played an exhibition game Tuesday evening during StFX fall break week and came away with a 64-0 victory over the NY Village Lions FC, a senior women’s team. The game was played in the Bronx.
The visiting StFX X-Women defeated the home side SMU Huskies 49-0 on Wednesday night in Atlantic University Sport women’s rugby action from Huskies Stadium.
The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Women remain undefeated on the AUS season after playing to a 57-2 victory over the No. 8 ranked Acadia Axewomen Saturday afternoon in front of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd of over 1700 fans.
The U SPORTS No. 3 ranked StFX X-Women remain undefeated and improve to 4-0 with a convincing 38-14 win over the No. 5 ranked Acadia Axewomen in a battle of AUS rugby heavyweights Friday night at Raymond Field.
The defending U SPORTS national champion and No. 1 ranked StFX X-Women were victorious over the visiting Saint Mary’s Huskies Satursay afternoon, handling them by a convincing 81-7 scoreline, in front of close to 300 fans.
The hardest thing to do in sports is win. But for StFX women’s rugby coach, Mike Cavanagh, that’s all he’s done. Friday afternoon, the rugby guru reached the century mark after his team took down the UPEI Panthers 73-5 in the season opener.

SOCCER: Sunday, Sept. 8th UNB @ StFX games at 1:00 and 3:15 pm are on as scheduled
On Saturday the StFX X-Women rugby team began defense of their 2018 U SPORTS national title with a pair of pre-season exhibition games against conference rival Acadia. The two teams split their squads and the X-Women came out on top of both games, winning 46-29 and 36-0.
