June Beals honored as Subway AUS female athlete of the week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - StFX X-Women rugby player June Beals and UNB Varsity Reds men's hockey player Stephen Anderson have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

June Beals of the StFX X-Women rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 8, 2017.

A second-year arts student in her third year of elibility from North Preston, N.S., Beals scored four tries—all in the first half—in StFX's 89-7 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Wednesday night in Halifax, N.S.

With 12 tries on the season, she currently leads the AUS and is tied for the most tries scored in the nation. She sits second in AUS scoring with 60 points.

Stephen Anderson of the UNB Varsity Reds men's hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 8, 2017.

A third-year business student from Morell, P.E.I., Anderson scored five goals in two games last week to lead the Varsity Reds to a 2-0 record to start the AUS hockey season.

He scored three times in UNB's season opener, a 6-2 win over Moncton on Wednesday, and added two more goals in Friday's 5-3 road win at UPEI.

Anderson was named Subway Player of the Game in both contests.
