Truro, N.S. - The StFX X-Women rugby team won two out of three matches – both shutouts – in exhibition tournament action Saturday.

The blue and white started the day with a 51-0 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies.

Emily Ramroop (Scarborough, ON), Sammie Nadeau (Peterborough, ON), Merrit Blair (Ottawa, ON), Hailey Meade (Ottawa, ON) and Anna Horner (Stouffville, ON) chipped in single tries in the lopsided triumph.

The X-Women defense posted their second defensive goose egg in a 59-0 win over the St. Thomas Tommies.

Veteran Sabrina McDaid (Scarborough, ON) contributed a try and four conversions, while Alex Hamilton (Cole Harbour, NS), Carolyn Williams (Ottawa, ON), Miranda Sample (Havelock, QC), Megan Buchanan (Lethbridge, AB), Carleigh Walters (Williams Lake, BC), Kalece O'Regan (Charlottetown, PEI) and MacKenzie Bell (New Glasgow, NS) added singles tries. Jacqui Salvatore (Scarborough, ON) made three conversions in the win.

Sandwiched between the victories was a 21-15 loss to the defending conference champion Acadia Axewomen. In the match-up, the X-Women utilized a split squad, with each line-up playing one half apiece.

Joanna Alphonso (Ajax, ON) and Walters scored tries for StFX, while McDaid added a conversion and penalty kick in the narrow loss.

The X-Women will be back in action Friday, Sept. 9, when they host the Huskies to launch the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) regular season.

Opening kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at StFX Stadium.
