Emma Taylor of the St. Francis Xavier University women's rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 5, 2014.

A fifth-year business student from Scotsburn, N.S., Taylor scored two tries and provided veteran leadership on the pitch Friday night as the CIS No. 2-ranked X-Women defeated the CIS No. 8-ranked Acadia Axewomen 43-12 in a battle of the top two AUS teams.

Taylor scored the opening try of the game to set the pace and scored again on one of the final plays of the game, earning Subway player of the game honours for her on-field efforts. Her nine tries on the season leads the AUS conference and she is second overall in AUS scoring with 55 points for the first place X-Women.

John Kuto of the Saint Mary's University men's cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 5, 2014.

A third-year criminology student from Eldoret, Kenya, Kuto finished first out of 34 runners in the men's 8km run at the Moncton Invitational meet Saturday on the Université de Moncton campus.

His time of 26:19.10 was just under 10 seconds faster than the second-place runner. This is the second time Kuto has claimed first place in an AUS meet this season.
