Three X-Women win gold with Canada at rugby U20 Nations Cup

Three members of the CIS champion X-Women rugby game recently added another championship title to their credit. Sara Kaljuvee, Natalie Lesco and Dani Robb were all members of the U20 Canadian women's team who won gold at the U20 Nations Cup in London, England this past week.

The four team tournament saw the Canadian squad de-throne three-time defending champions England en route to a 4-0 performance. The international event took place July 11-21 and also featured teams from the United States and South Africa.

Canada's first round robin match was against the USA on July 11th and they played to a 25-15 victory. Kaljuvee, who recently wrapped up her second year with the X-Women, was the captain of the team and played a strong game defensively. A native of Ajax, Ont. the center was a CIS tournament all-star and AUS all-star this past season with StFX.

Also representing Canada from the X-Women was Natalie Lesco from London, Ont, a center with StFX who has one year of eligibility already under her belt. Danielle (Dani) Robb from Millbay, BC completed her second season with the X-Women in 2012, where she recovered from an injury.

In Canada's second round robin game on July 14th, they earned an impressive 43-15 victory over the defending champs from England. Lesco contributed a try in the Canadian win.

Their final round robin game on July 17th was a 37-0 shutout over South Africa, advancing them to the gold medal match against the USA on July 21st. Canada then handled the Americans by a 27-3 score to win the gold. England defeated South Africa 37-3 for the bronze medal.
