LANDRY NAMED COC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Ghislaine Landry was the star of the squad that had a historic breakthrough at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow. In claiming silver, the national women's team won the first-ever medal for Canadian rugby in any World Cup event.

Landry was the tournament's second-leading scorer in both points (37) and tries (7) behind only New Zealand's Portia Woodman. Rugby Canada's Landry scored five points in Canada's 29-12 loss to New Zealand in the final and was the key figure in getting Canada to that point.

She was responsible for all 10 Canadian points in the semifinal shutout victory over Spain. She also scored the game-winning try with 13 seconds to go in the quarterfinal against Russia.

The 2013 edition of the World Cup, held every four years, is the last world championship before rugby sevens makes its Olympic debut at Rio 2016. Follow: @rugbycanada
