Burrows and X-Women shutout Mounties 4-0
The STFX X-Women made it three wins in a row as they shutout the Mount Allison Mounties 4-0 Saturday afternoon
Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women made it three wins in a row as they shutout the Mount Allison Mounties 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the STFX Keating Centre.
Jorja Burrows made 12 saves in the STFX net for the shutout victory, her first regular season win in her X-Women career.
Alexis Perry got the X-Women on the board first with a goal at 7:17 of the first period while on the power play, converting a pass from Ireland McCloskey. The marker was Perry's first career AUS goal for the X-Women.
Terryn Mozes and Kalle Hastman then scored consecutive goals in 23 seconds to give STFX a 3-0 lead with under five minutes in the first. Mozes deposited a rebound with Claire Carruthers and Ashlyn Garnett picking up the assists. Hastman's tally came off a rebound after Mounties netminder Skye MacDonald made the initial save off a Mackenzie Lothian shot.
The X-Women outshot the Mounties 15-6 in the opening period as the home team controlled the majority of play in the period.
There was no scoring in the second frame though X continued to lead in shots, 8-2 in the period and 23-8 after 40 minutes.
The final X goal came with 3:32 to go in the third period as co-captain Landyn Pitts netted an unassisted marker.
Perry garnered Gabriel Pizza player of the game and first star honours. Hastman was second star and McCloskey the third star.
With the win the X-Women improve to 5-2-0-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the season. The Mounties drop to 0-10-0-0, still in search of their first win.
Mount Allison will be back in AUS action this Wednesday, November 6th when they travel to UPEI for a 7:00 pm.
The X-Women hit the ice at home again tomorrow, November 3rd for a 3:00 matinee against Dalhousie.
