X-Women Hockey welcomes transfer student Anna MacCara

ANTIGONISH, NS – The StFX X-Women hockey program added another key piece to their future this week with the transfer of forward Anna MacCara from McGill University.

MacCara will enter the program as a second-year student-athlete in the fall, having completed one season with the Martlets. Originally from Yellowknife, NWT, the 5'3" right-handed forward played at Okanagan Hockey Academy prior to attending McGill.

MacCara also played in two Canada Games, as a 13-year old in 2015 with Team NWT and in 2019 with Team British Columbia. Anna garnered seven points in 18 games with McGill last season, while missing time with injury. She is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Northern Selects Midget AAA program as her family recently moved to Pictou County. MacCara brings energy, speed and strong two-way play to the X-Women. Additionally, she has a leadership background as a former captain at OHA.

"Anna is a high-character individual who we know will help our program on many levels," says Coach Berthiaume. "She is a competitor and she's versatile. She can play up or down the lineup and will make players around her better. The fact that Anna is a right-handed forward who can play center or the right side is another bonus. We are especially happy with everything we've seen and heard about Anna as a leader and think that she'll be a perfect fit with our group. It will be great to see her skating with us in the fall."

MacCara will study Business at StFX and she joins previously announced 2021-22 X-Women recruits forwards Ellie Brown (Kemptville, ON), Landyn Pitts (Antigonish, NS) and Kamdyn Switzer (Stittsville, ON), defenders Vivian Hinch (Vancouver, BC), Ella VandeSompel (London, ON) and Ashley Monds (Brockville, ON), and goaltender Amaya Giraudier (Assiniboia, SK).
