X-Women win fourth consecutive game

Sackville, NB – The StFX X-Women defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 3-1 Saturday afternoon, extending their recent winning streak to four games.

All three StFX goals were scored in the first period of play as the visitors brought the pressure early in the game.

Sarah Bujold lead off the X-Women scoring at 4:53 from fellow veteran forwards Emily Power and Lydia Schurman. Freshman forward Lacey Dimaulo tallied at 6:42, tipping in an Amy Graham shot, then Kate Gotaas increased the X lead with three minutes left in the period. Kristen McKinley and Lindsey Donovan assisted on the third goal.

The X-Women held the Mounties to only three shots in the first period while they fired 11 of their own.

Shots in the second period also favoured the X-Women at 8-4 thought the Mounties held them off the scoresheet and no further scoring took place.

The home team finally got on the board 2:55 into the third period when Jessica Desautels connected with Rhiannon Ford and Heather Richards for the power play marker. The Mounties played a better third period and outshot the X-Women by a slim 9-8 margin.

Final shots in the game came in at 27-16 as Cassidy McEwan earned the win in the StFX net. Lindsay Wray was tagged with the loss for Mount A who fall to 4-19-0 on the season.

The second place X-Women improve to 15-5-3. They will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Fredericton to take on the UNB Reds in a 3:00 pm game.

The Mounties will travel to Charlottetown on Wednesday to face-off against the UPEI Panthers.
