Sackville, NB – The StFX X-Women got back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday evening. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the X-Women.

Lydia Schurman's goal at 15:06 of the first period was the only goal of the opening frame, giving the X-Women a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes as they outshot the Mounties by a lopsided 15-4 in the period. Santana Gravelle assisted on the play.

The X-Women continued to pressure in the second period, edging the Mounties in shots 13-9, though it was the hometown Mounties who got on the board first and tied the game up with a goal off the stick of Lauren Shaw. The marker came at 3:33 while Mount A was on the power play off a Jessica Campbell dish.

StFX regained their lead at 14:16 when Schurman scored her second marker of the game and what would hold up as the game winning goal. Sarah Bujold and Emma Thomas had the helpers on the play.

Lea MacLeod scored the insurance marker with 57 seconds left in the period, from fellow freshman Tyra Meropoulis.

The teams were scoreless in the third period despite a pair of power play opportunities by the Mounties. The X-Women held them to only four shots in the period as they finished the night with a 41-17 shot advantage.

Cassidy McEwan earned the win between the pipes for the X-Women who improve to 12-5-3 on the season.

The Mounties fall to 3-15-0. They will next see action on Sunday when they host UNB at 2:00 pm. The X-Women will travel to Halifax on Wednesday, January 16th to face-off against Dalhousie.
