Stingers defeat X-Women in exhibition action

Montreal, QC – The StFX X-Women returned to the ice in exhibition action Friday evening at the Theresa Humes Tournament at Concordia University. In the opening game of the tournament against the host Concordia Stingers squad, the X-Women played a close game but came out on the losing end of a 4-1 match.

Shots were very even in the game with the Stingers holding a 19-18 edge. The X-Women had their chances to get in the game but failed to convert on several key scoring opportunities.

The Stingers opened up a 1-0 first period lead on a Marie-Pascale Bernier power play goal just over four minutes into the game.

They increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of second period markers. Audrey Belzile scored on the power play for Concordia seven minutes in then Amelie Lemay tallied at 12:47.

The X-Women finally got on the board with just over two minutes left in the middle period as Sarah Bujold connected with Kate Gotaas and Lea MacLeod.

The only scoring in the third period came from Concordia's Bernier who notched her second goal of the night.

Alice Philbert earned the win in the Stingers net with 17 saves. Carley Molnar, with 15 saves, was tagged with the loss in the X net.

The X-Women will be back in tournament action Saturday as they face-off against the Syracuse Orange, an NCAA Division I team. Game time is 2:00 pm EST in Montreal.
