Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 5-0 in AUS women's hockey action Sunday afternoon at the Charles V. Keating Centre.

Powered by a three-point effort from Subway player of the game Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB), the X-Women held leads of 2-0 and 4-0 after the opening two periods.

Cassidy McEwan (Lloydminster, AB) with 17 saves in the StFX net earned the shutout victory between the pipes.

Freshman forward Lacey DiMaulo (Okotoks, AB) opened the scoring in the game for the X-Women at the 2:41 mark of the first period, off a Lindsey Donovan (Mirimichi, NB) pass to give StFX an early 1-0 advantage.

Fellow freshman Tyra Meropoulis (Edson, AB) increased the lead at 9:24 as she lifted one up over Mounties goaltender Lindsay Wray (Courtice, ON). Bujold assisted on the play.

The X-Women held onto the 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play as they outshot the Mounties 14-5 in the first period.

The home squad doubled their lead with a pair of second period goals. A power play marker from Bujold just over a minute into the period and an Emily Power (Airdrie, AB) goal at 11:08 extended the X lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes.

Despite the two StFX goals, it was the Mounties who held the shot advantage in the middle period at 8-4.

Veteran fifth year captain Bujold notched her third goal of the season, from Emma Thomas (Red Deer, AB) just 1:52 into the third period to give the X-Women the 5-0 lead.

Final shots in the game favoured the X-Women at 33-17.

Bujold was the game's first star, StFX's Donovan was second star and X-Women forward Patt-Anne Tracey (Antigonish, NS) received third star honours.

Next up on the AUS schedule sees the Mounties travel to Halifax on Wednesday evening, November 4th for a game against the Dalhousie Tigers. The X-Women will host the UPEI Panthers on Friday night, November 9th in a 7:00 pm game.
