X-Women shutout by Aigles Bleues

MONCTON – Goaltender Audrey Berthiaume handled 33 shots on goal to lead the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (3-5-0) to a 3-0 shutout over of the U SPORTS No. 4 ranked StFX X-Women (5-1-1) in AUS hockey action at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, Friday evening.

The game marked the first regulation time loss for the X-Women this season. The Aigles Bleues scored a goal as period as Janelle Graham tallied at 6:53 of the first from Cassandra Labrie and Katryne Villeneuve to get the home team on the board.

Samantha McLaughlin scored unassisted on a hard wrist shot from the face-off circle in the second period, and Katryne Villeneuve (from Janelle Graham,) on a breakaway in the third period rounded out the Aigles Bleues scoring as they fired 22 shots on StFX netminder Carley Molnar.

The X-Women outshot the Aigles Bleues by a 33-22 margin but were unable to solve Moncton goalkeeper Audrey Berthiaume who took home Subway player of the game honours.

Neither team took advantage of their power play opportunities in the game as Moncton was 0 for 5, and StFX 0 for 4. 

Next up on the AUS schedule sees Moncton right back on the ice Saturday as they host UPEI at 7 p.m. The X-Women will play host to  Mount Allison Sunday at 2 p.m.
