MONCTON, NB – A goal by Katryne Villeneuve at 14:23 of the second period proved to be the game winner in leading the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues to a 2-1 win over the StFX X-Women Friday evening in AUS women's hockey action at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Villeneuve scored during a nice play in front of the net to get the puck behind the opposing goaltender and break a 1-1 deadlock. Dominique Bérubé and Gabrielle Saulnier assisted on the goal.

Aigles Bleues Sarah-Ève Mailhot from Marie-Pier Corriveau and Maëlle Rioux had given the home team a 1-0 lead at 16:19 of the first period while on the power play. StFX captain Daley Oddy, from Sarah Bujold and Emerson Elliott at 4:44 of the second period, evened the game.

There was no third period scoring as both teams played hard and the goaltenders stopped all shots. Gabrielle Forget, the Subway player of the game, made 32 saves in the Moncton net for the win, including 16 in the second period. Carley Molnar made 20 saves, in the loss. The visitors were not able to score on three power plays, including a 5-on-3 opportunity, while Moncton was 1-for-2 on the main advantage.

''I had fun getting all those shots,'' said Moncton goaltender Gabrielle Forget. ''We accomplished the minute details well and we concentrated on our game. Our players went all out in this game. We played in the system. I sometimes had difficulty seeing the puck with so much traffic in front of the net. My defenseman did an excellent job of clearing the front.''

Next up for the Aigles Bleues is another home game on Sunday when they will host the Mount Allison Mounties at 2:00 pm. The X-Women will also be in action on Sunday afternoon as they return home to host the UPEI Panthers in a 3:00 pm game at the StFX Keating Centre.
