Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Women X-Women hit the ice for the first time in pre-season exhibition action and skated to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night at Alumni Arena.

The difference in the game was a pair of second period goals scored by two X-Women freshmen.

The teams exchanged minimal scoring chances in the opening period as the visiting X-Women held a slight 6-5 shot advantage.

Freshman forward Emerson Elliott (Aurora, ON) notched her first marker for the blue and white at 12:05 of the second period on a feed from veteran forward and reigned U SPORTS player of the year Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB).

Kristen McKinley (Riverview, NB) tallied with a minute left in the second to give StFX the 2-0 advantage. Kate Gotaas (Sherwood Park, AB) was in on the set-up. Shots favored the X-Women 13-10 in the middle period.

The third period brought the X-Women two power-play opportunities and the Huskies one, but neither team could score and the 2-0 result held in favor of X.

Final shots were 25-18 for the X-Women as Carley Molnar (London, ON) earned the win in the StFX net. Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) was tagged with the loss for the Huskies.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for another exhibition match-up, this time in Antigonish. The puck drops at 2:00 pm at the Keating Centre auxiliary arena.
