X-Women fall to first place Tommies

Antigonish, N.S. - The St. Thomas Tommies skated to a 5-3 win over the StFX X-Women in AUS hockey action Saturday afternoon at the Keating Centre. 

At 4:59 of the first period, Emily Oleksuk tallied unassisted to give the visitors a 1-0 edge.

At 17:13, Daley Oddy knotted the contest for the X-Women, on assists from Sarah Bujold and Kara Power

On the lone goal of the second period, an unassisted marker from Kelty Apperson - at 10:44 - the Tommies took a 2-1 lead into the third period.

In the final stanza, at the 20-second mark, Lauren Henman - from Apperson and Jessie McCann - the Tommies went up by two goals.

At 5:30, Kara Power replied for the X-Women, from Bujold, to make it 3-2. 

On the powerplay, at 8:52, Eliza Snider, from Oleksuk and Henman, gave St. Thomas a 4-2 lead.

Less than two minutes later, at 10:33, Apperson notched an unassisted goal. 

At 16:48, Heather Tillsley, unassisted, sliced the lead to 5-3, but the X-Women could get no closer.

Pascale Daigle and Ariana Orasanin made 17 and eight saves, respectively, for the X-Women, while Abby Clarke made 26 stops.

Apperson was named the Subway player of the game and first star, while Henman and Power earned second and third star nods, respectively.

The teams will be back on the ice Sunday, Nov. 13, with the Tommies in Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies, while the X-Women will host the UPEI Panthers.

Puck drop for both games is 2 p.m.
