X-Women fall to Moncton in first regular season game

Moncton, NB – The StFX X-Women opened AUS regular season play in New Brunswick Saturday evening, falling 5-3 to the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues.

X-Women forward Daley Oddy opened the scoring just 58 seconds into the first period but the Aigles Bleues responded with three unanswered first period goals to take a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Moncton goal scorers were Karine Roy, Janie Poitras and Cassandra Labrie on the power play as markers were scored at 3:54, 15:40 and 19:48.

Katryne Villeneuve increased their lead to 4-1 as she netted the only goal of the second period at the 16:44 mark.

A third period power play goal by StFX's Emily Power at the 11 minute mark cut into the Moncton lead, however the Aigles answered with another goal just a 1:12 later as Marie-Pier Corriveau potted an unassisted marker.

With 28 seconds left in the game Jenna MacDonald scored for the X-Women to close the game at 5-3 in favor of the Aigles Bleues who earned the 'W' despite being outshot 34-24 in the game.

Gabrielle Forget was the winning netminder with 31 saves on the night. Pascale Daigle was tagged with the loss for StFX.

The X-Women will head to Fredericton on Sunday afternoon for a 2:00 pm game against the St. Thomas Tommies. The Aigles Bleues will host the Saint Mary's Huskies Sunday at 4:00 pm.
