X-Women defeat Stingers

Antigonish, NS - Sophomore forward Jenna MacDonald (Osgoode, ON) scored an unassisted goal in overtime to give her StFX X-Women a 2-1 victory over the Concordia Stingers in Ross Screenprint X-Women Invitational tournament action Friday night at the Keating Centre.

At the 5:51 mark of the first period, the Stingers took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal from Alexandria D'Onofrio (Rivieres des Prairies, QC).

Less than two minutes later, at 7:33, senior forward Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) evened the game for the X-Women with a power play goal. Freshman defender Jessica Geddes (Oakville, ON) and sophomore Nicole Halladay (Smith's Falls, ON) drew the assists.

Power had a chance to give the X-Women the lead as she was awarded a penalty shot early in the second period, but was denied by Stingers goaltender Katherine Purchase (Halifax, NS).

The teams skated to scoreless second and third periods, which set the stage for MacDonald's game-winner.
