Shin competing at IIHF World Hockey Championship

X-Women hockey goaltender Sojung Shin is competing with Team Korea this week at the IIHF Women's World Championship (Division II, Group A) in Dumfries, Great Britain.

A native of Seoul, Shin recently completed her second season with the X-Women where she backstopped them to an AUS championship, finishing first place atop the conference with a 20-4-0 record. Shin led the conference in wins with a 14-2 record and was an AUS first team all-star.

At the World Championship, Shin and her teammates will play in five round robin games. She was named player of the game Monday, posting 36 saves as her Korean squad fell 2-0 in a close game to Kazakhstan.

They will face off against Great Britain on Tuesday, followed by Poland on Thursday, New Zealand and Croatia on Saturday and Sunday.

This isn't the first time the X-Women netminder has appeared on the international stage. Shin competed for Korea in the same tournament last year in Italy where they placed third overall with a 3-2 record. Shin earned team MVP and top tournament goaltender honors.

A third year Human Kinetics student, Shin led the CIS this season in win percentage (.875) and was fourth in the nation and tops in the AUS in both save percentage (.949) and goals against average (1.19).
