X-Women hockey move up to No. 6 in national rankings

CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#17)
New national leaders in volleyball

OTTAWA (CIS) – The UBC Okanagan Heat and McMaster Marauders are the new national leaders in CIS women's and men's volleyball, respectively.

The only other change at the top in this week's CIS rankings sees Fraser Valley take over from Brock in the second men's wrestling poll of the season.

In other CIS sports, Windsor (women's basketball), Ottawa (men's basketball), Montreal (women's hockey), Alberta (men's hockey), UBC (women's & men's swimming), Toronto (women's track & field), Guelph (men's track & field) and Brock (women's wrestling) all hold on to their No. 1 status.

In women's volleyball, UBC-O (16-4) is ranked No. 1 for the first time in program history after spending the last two weeks in second place. The Heat swept Thompson Rivers 3-1 and 3-2 this past weekend to extend their winning streak to 12 games since starting the Canada West season 4-4.

Ranked No. 1 since the third week of October, the Alberta Pandas (14-4) fall to No. 2 after settling for a weekend split against Manitoba.

In men's volleyball, McMaster (13-1) defeated RMC and Queen's in straight sets last weekend and has now won 13 straight since dropping its OUA opener against Western on Oct. 17. The Marauders, who lead the national rankings for the first time this season, had topped eight of 14 coaches' polls a year ago.

Ranked No. 1 since the start of the campaign, the reigning CIS champion Alberta Golden Bears (16-2) went 1-1 for the second consecutive week, this time against Manitoba.

NOTES: In women's basketball, the reigning four-time CIS champion Windsor Lancers (9-1), who suffered their first loss of the campaign last weekend, barely held on to No. 1 as they edged the McGill Martlets (8-0) by a single point in the coaches' poll (477 vs. 476). The Martlets, who have never been ranked No. 1, even received one more first-place vote than the Lancers (20-19).
