X-Women hockey goaltender Shin competes at IIHF event

X-Women hockey goaltender Sojung Shin recently competed at the IIHF Women's World Championship in Asiago, Italy for her home country of Korea.

The Korean team competed in Division II, Group A, along with Australia, Great Britain, Italy, New Zealand and Poland in a round robin tournament.

Named the best goaltender of the tournament and the best player on her team, Shin and her Korean teammates placed third overall with a record of 3-2. Italy was first followed by Great Britain.

Shin, a 5'6" goalie from Seoul, played all five games for the Korean national team in the international event. They opened with two consecutive wins, both needing overtime then a shootout as Korea defeated New Zealand 2-1 and Poland 3-2. Shin posted 20 saves in the win over New Zealand and 48 against Poland.

Korea then lost 3-1 to Italy and 3-1 to Great Britain. Shin was named the player of the game in the loss against Italy as she had 45 saves. She tallied 35 saves against Great Britain. She closed off the tournament with 24 saves in a 2-1 victory over Australia.

Overall, Sojung had a .945 save percentage in the international event and a 1.94 goals against average and was awarded top goaltender honors.

She recently wrapped up her first season with the X-Women in AUS play where she posted a 12-4-0 record and led the conference with a 1.44 goals against average. Shin also was second overall in save percentage (.930) and win percentage (.750). She will return to the X-Women line-up in the fall.
