X-Women improve to 7-0 with pair of victories

The CIS ranked No. 4 X-Women pulled off a pair of victories in AUS competition this weekend while on the road in New Brunswick. Saturday evening in Fredericton the X-Women defeated St. Thomas 2-1 in overtime in a close affair, then followed up with a commanding 6-0 shutout over Mount Allison Sunday afternoon in Sackville.

Second year forward Schyler Campbell from Galloway, NB shone in her home province as she scored a hat trick in Sunday against the Mounties, earning Subway player of the game honors.

She scored two power play goals as the X-Women scored two goals each period en route to the 6-0 win. Freshman goaltender Sojung Shin picked up the win in nets for StFX, turning aside 15 shots.

The X-Women outshot the Mounties by a 32-15 margin.

Also finding the back of the net for the X-Women were Molly MacDonald who netted two goals, along with Kara Power.

Alex Normore had four assists on the afternoon while freshmen Daley Oddy and Nicole Corcoran has two helpers a piece.

StFX scored four power play goals in the game.

The X-Women had picked up their play after a close 2-1 overtime encounter with the St. Thomas Tommies the previous night at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

The Tommies got on the board first with a Stephanie Gates first period goal.

StFX's Daley Oddy tied the game at 12:53 of the second period as Campbell and Normore picked up the assists.

After a scoreless third period, Normore became the overtime hero, scoring an unassisted goal for the X-Women 55 seconds into the extra frame.

She earned Subway player of the game honors for her two-point evening and game-winning effort.

Pascale Daigle picked up the win for X in nets with 21 saves.

The X-Women outshot the Tommies 34-22.

With the two wins the X-Women improve to 7-0 on the season and remain atop the AUS conference in first place.

Next on the StFX schedule is a single game against the UPEI Panthers (3-4) on Nov. 16th in Charlottetown. Game time is 7:00 pm.
