X-Women sweep Sea-Hawks to close out regular season action
X-Women secure 64-57 road victory over Sea-Hawks Saturday night, their second straight win
St. John's, NF – The STFX X-Women secured a solid 64-57 road victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday night at The Fieldhouse, their second straight win. The visitors controlled most of the game, but Memorial fought back in the third quarter before SFFX pulled away in the fourth.
Kristine Cooper led the X-Women with 18 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and added 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Ekaterina Karchevskaya netted 10 points for X and had 5 rebounds and 2 assists, Abby Mercer scored 10 points, and Ayla White off the bench contributed 9 points.
For the Sea-Hawks, Brooke LeDevehat scored 15 points, Serena Phillips had 13, and Carly Norris scored 12 points and had 9 rebounds.
The X-Women started strong, leading 18-13 after the first quarter. They maintained a slight edge at halftime (31-25).
Memorial surged with an 18-point third quarter, briefly taking momentum as they had a 68-62 lead through three.
STFX closed the game strong with a 25-point explosion in the fourth, securing the win.
Tonight's game marks the final one of regular season play as the X-Women close out the season with an 11-9 record in fourth place with 22 points.
They now focus their attention on the AUS Championship next weekend at Halifax's Scotibank Centre. The X-Women will be in quarterfinal playoff action on Friday, February 28th at 1:00 pm when they take on the fifth place Cape Breton Capers.
