Acadia defeats X-Women 71-55

Antigonish, NS – Powered by a 27-point effort from Haley MacDonald (Port Williams, NS), the Acadia Axewomen defeated the StFX X-Women 71-55 Friday night on Coach K Court at the StFX Saputo Centre.

MacDonald scored seven points in the first quarter as the Aexwomen got out to a 29-18 lead.

The X-Women played a stronger second quarter, scoring 14 to Acadia's 15 to trail 44-32 at halftime. Aliyah Fraser (New Glasgow, NS) had a huge quarter for X, netting 13 of their 14 points, including four from three-point range.

Acadia won the third quarter 16-11 as they built up a 60-43 lead. MacDonald scored another nine points.

In a low scoring fourth quarter the X-Women outplayed the Axewomen 12-11 but could not overcome the deficit built up by the AUS first place team.

MacDonald, the Subway player of the game, finished with a game-high 27 points for Acadia and added six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) netted 11 points off the bench and Sarsha Cadle (Melbourne, AUS) added eight points and was the top rebounder with 11 on the night.

For the X-Women Fraser finisher with 21 points. Karina Sarai (Surrey, BC) scored nine and Grace Rheault (Ottawa, ON) added eight. Veteran forward Jamie McCarron (New Glasgow, NS) pulled in seven rebounds.

The X-Women are back in action again on Saturday night as they travel to Sydney for a 6:00 pm games against the Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia next sees action on Wednesday night when they play Saint Mary's in Halifax.
