X-Women Basketball welcomes pair of Nova Scotia recruits

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX X-Women basketball head coach Lee Anna Osei is pleased to announce the commitment of a pair of top Nova Scotia prospects to the X-Women program for the 2019-20 season in Briar MacDonald and Aliyah Fraser.

"I am very pleased to announce the first two committed recruits to our 2019-20 roster," comments Coach Osei. "Each athlete brings a unique style of play and skill set to bolster the X-Women's youthful roster and I look forward to them joining our program."

Both former Basketball Nova Scotia provincial team members, the athletes represent the first official recruits for head coach Osei who has recently wrapped up her first season behind the X-Women bench.

Briar MacDonald is a 6'3 small forward from Antigonish, N.S., who currently plays for King's-Edgehill, Canada's only female prep school program competing in the NEPSAC league in the United States. MacDonald is a former Team Canada identified athlete and has spent the past year competing against some of North America's most talented athletes.

"We are extremely excited about Briar's future at StFX," notes Osei. "Versatile at her size, Briar's ability to shoot threes, initiate breaks, and find her teammates will make her an impact freshman."

Aliyah Fraser is a 6'0 shooting guard from New Glasgow, N.S., who most recently attended TRC Academy where Coach Osei previously had the pleasure of coaching her at the prep school level. Fraser's varied playing experience at high performance programs across Canada has enabled in her a sense of leadership and efficiency that is a welcome addition to the X-Women program.

"As a lengthier guard, Aliyah's ability to connect from long range and defend multiple positions will add a much needed dynamic to our team," says Osei.

Both athletes were recently on the StFX campus to officially sign their U SPORTS letters to attend StFX University this coming fall.
