X-Women earn 75-48 exhibition win over Tommies

Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Women played to a 75-48 exhibition win over the St. Thomas Tommies Monday afternoon in their second game at the MSVU Dyrick McDermott Invitational tournament. The StFX squad rebounded after a loss to MSVU the previous night.

Lead by player of the game Kim Kingsbury who scored a game-high 29 points, the X-Women got out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter of play and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

The X-Women were up 47-20 at halftime. Kingsbury netted 22 points in the opening half, including going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Brianna Gotschall scored 10 off the bench in the first half as StFX outscored the Tommies 26-9 in the second quarter.

The second half was more evenly matched at 29-28 in favour of the X-Women but the Tommies were unable to overcome the lead the blue and white had established.

Lainy Dow was named the Tommies player of the game, scoring a team-high 12 points. Alana Dowling added 11.

Kingsbury added nine rebounds to go along with her 29 points. Gotschall finished with 20 points on the day and seven rebounds, while Nalini Maharaj scored nine and contributed six rebounds. Samantha Minicucci lead the X-Women with 12 boards.

With a 1-1 tournament record, the X-Women will play their final game on Tuesday at 1:00 pm when they take on the University of King's College.
