X-Women drop game to UQAM

Sydney, NS – The Université de Quebec á Montreal Citadens defeated the StFX X-Women 78-55 in their second game of the Protocase Debbie Ruiz Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Sullivan Fieldhouse. 

The Citadens were led by Clara Blachier with 18 points. The X-Women were led by Samantha Minicucci and Jamie McCarron who scored 16 points each with in the losing cause.

UQAM got out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter of play and were up 34-20 at halftime. They outscored the X-Women 30-16 in the third quarter to push the game out of reach, though the X-Women did have a strong quarter to finish the game, outscoring their RSEQ opponent 19-14.

Inga Aleksaite of the Citadens was awarded the Protocase Player of the Game for her efforts with a double-double night scoring 10 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.

Griffen Lock-Shane, off the X-Women bench, was the top rebounder for StFX with nine on the night while Minicucci had eight boards.

The X-Women will next play the host Cape Breton Capers on Sunday at 12 pm and the Citadens will play the University of Nipissing Lakers at 10 am.
