X-Women beat Nipissing in first game of CBU tourney

Sydney, NS – The StFX X-Women defeated the Nipissing Lakers 68-56 in exhibition action in the first game of the Debbie Ruiz memorial tournament hosted by Cape Breton University.  

The X-Women got out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

StFX was paced by Jamie McCarron who scored 17 points, while three more X-Women hit the double scoring digits in the game. Samantha Minicucci scored 10 points and led the X-Women in rebounding with nine. Kim Kingsbury also netted 10 points, as did Lucia MacKay who also contributed eight rebounds and four steals. Griffin Lock-Shane added nine points off the X bench.

Nipissing's top scorer was Michaela Branker who scored 22, with Angeline Campbell adding 11.

For her efforts, StFX's McCarron received Protocase Player of the Game honours.

The X-Women held leads of 28-21 at halftime and 44-36 after the third quarter.

They will be back in action Saturday night at 8:00 pm to tip-off against the Université de Quebec á Montreal.
