X-Women fall to Mystics in tournament action

Antigonish, NS – The Mount Saint Vincent Mystics defeated the StFX X-Women 79-56 in UPEI Panthers in pre-season exhibition tournament action Friday evening in the second game of the inaugural StFX Invitational.

With the win the Mystics punched their ticket to Saturday's championship game at 4:00 pm against UPEI. The X-Women will play Cape Breton in the consolation final at 2:00. UPEI advanced with a 77-65 win over Cape Breton in the first game of the evening.

The Mystics got out to an early 17-11 lead after the first quarter and they did not relinquish their advantage over the host X-Women for the duration of the game.

They outscored StFX 26-12 in the second quarter to take a 43-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The X-Women battled back in the third quarter as both squads scored 20 points apiece, but the Mystics still held a 20 point advantage – 63-43 – at the conclusion of the third.

In a low scoring fourth quarter that favored the Mystics at 16-13, the visitors took home the win.

Maria Carroll led all scorers in the game with 21 points, while Nikki Arsenault contributed 15. Kat Khorovets scored 10 points off the MSVU bench

For the X-Women Lucia MacKay scored 11 points, with Kim Kingsbury and Brianna Gottschall each netting eight. Gottschall also added seven rebounds on the night.

The X-Women will play Cape Breton Saturday at 2:00 pm in the consolation final, while the Mystics and Panthers will meet in the championship game at 4:00 pm.
