ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX Athletics has announced that Augy Jones has been released from his position as head coach of the women's basketball program.  Mr. Jones is in discussions with StFX University regarding a new employment opportunity. An announcement pertaining to his new role will be forthcoming once details are finalized.

StFX Director of Athletics & Recreation Leo MacPherson comments, "I would like to thank Augy Jones for his unwavering dedication and loyalty to our university and our student-athletes. He consistently represented StFX with class and dignity. We thank him and wish him well."

Jones took over the X-Women basketball program in April, 2012, coaching for the past six seasons. He led the team to the AUS championship final in both 2012-13 and 2013-14. His X-Women failed to qualify for the AUS playoffs for the last four seasons including this past one.

An X-Men basketball alumnus and Halifax native, Jones previously served as an assistant coach with the Saint Mary's men's basketball program for four years prior to his stint with the X-Women, and he was an assistant coach with the X-Men program for three seasons in the early 2000's with Steve Konchalski. The years Jones was involved with the X-Men program included a CIS national championship in 2001, a CIS silver medal in 2004 and three AUS championship titles.

StFX Athletics will begin their search for a new head coach of the X-Women basketball program immediately.
